Covid-19 has heightened interest in virtual hearings as tribunals and parties work to advance their cases while protecting the health of all participants. The Art and Science of a Virtual Hearing webinar held on May 4, 2020, aimed to provide practical insight and guidance from the perspective of arbitrators, counsel and the secretariat who participated in a recent three-day virtual hearing. Drawing from that experience, the speakers discussed how to prepare for a virtual hearing, what technical requirements to anticipate, and how to effectively conduct pleadings and examinations in a virtual setting.
